I want to put pebble tile in the base of our shower stall. All of the old tile is removed. New wall tile installed, set and grouted. I have the pebble tile, thinset, grout etc. The base of the shopwer stall is down to nothing – concrete slab.
1) Do I need to seal the concrete first with some kind of water sealant, or install some kind of protective barrier before laying the pebble tile?
2) The drain is centered, and flush with the concrete. When I install the pebble tile the drain cover will not be flush, not even close, it would be a full 3/4″ below the pebbles. It won’t look right, and probably won’t function well either!! What should I do? Any suggestions?

In my own installs I either raised the drain somehow with something I got at homedepot or lowes, or I chipped out the concrete to make it where it would be level with the top of the tile. (remember to angle the tiles slightly so that it drains with extra mortar or a shower floor pan (pan recommended.)
